Home Insulation Systems
CertainTeed Insulation
As the inventor of Premium Blowing Wool Insulation, CertainTeed is a leading developer of premier fiber-glass insulation. They offer a number of high-efficiency insulation products that are designed to provide better coverage, longer performance, and superior fire resistance.
InsulSafe®SP
InsulSafe® SP is CertainTeed’s flagship fiberglass blowing insulation. Because it is engineered to cover up to 20% more square footage per bag, it can be blown in more effectively and be just as thermally efficient while using less of the product. When compared side-by-side to cheaper cellulose insulation in fire resistance tests, InsulSafe® SP is the winner, providing a peace of mind that is virtually priceless. Benefits of InsulSafe® SP include:
- Maximizes efficiency of heating/cooling systems
- Lasts for the life of a home
- Environmentally sustainable
- GREENGUARD® certified
- Non-corrosive
- No rot, decay, corrosion or settling
- Meets all national and local building standards
- Excellent sound control
- Doesn’t absorb moisture
- Limited lifetime warranty
Both Owens Corning and CertainTeed offer insulation products that are efficiently produced and deliver high levels of performance, creating a positive impact not only on the comfort of your home but also on the environment. Owens Corning and CertainTeed make fiberglass insulation that consists of 50% rapidly renewable content, 35% recycled glass in the US, 70% in Canada, and now a new organic plant-based binder that has no formaldehyde, acrylics, or dyes added.
The average family spends close to $1,300 a year on their home’s utility bills – a large portion of which is wasted through poor insulation. Properly insulating the home can save up to 30% on energy bills year-round, so within 2 to 4 years, the installation costs are recovered! In addition, insulating the home means helping the environment—and homeowners can earn a 10% tax credit up to $500.
Kwaske Construction offers free energy audits where we can show homeowners how to save money and energy in a more comfortable and more valuable home by achieving full R-Value with blown-in fiberglass expert insulation. CertainTeed Insulation
People are becoming acutely aware of how a properly insulated home can help save on their heating/cooling and result in a more comfortable home year-round. Now smart homeowners, conscious of the new energy and environmental problems that face us, are again concerned about insulation levels in their homes.
Every material resists the flow of heat but some are more efficient insulators than others. The most common are fiberglass, rock wool, and cellulose, with fiberglass being by far the most preferred material. Fiberglass is thermally efficient and will last the life of your home without settling or deteriorating with age.
Insulation effectiveness is measured in R-Values, the ability of the material to resist heat flow. The higher the R-Value, the greater the insulating power. So when selecting insulation, buy or specify R-Value, not inches, as R-Values of materials vary.
Recently the US Department of Energy (DOE) upgraded its thermal requirements. Visit DOE-R Value Revised for the chart of recommended minimum insulation levels based on the DOE requirements. To use it, locate your geographic zone on the map, then find the appropriate R-Value for attics, sidewalls, floors, and ceilings.
R-Values of individual products can be added to achieve recommended levels. For example, an R-38 added to R-11 results in R-49. For recommended levels of insulation in Canada, visit the website for the Office of Energy Efficiency for a similar chart.
Note: these recommendations are a starting point. Be sure to check local building codes for specific requirements in your area.
